Historical Findings

KMC Mining has discovered six fossils throughout our years of mining operations in the oilsands. The Tyrell Museum in Drumheller took possession of the fossils consisting of 10-foot long pieces of rock. It is evident that the fossil findings are of a large marine reptile that swam the warm sea which covered the Fort McMurray area during the Lower Cretaceous Period 110 million years ago and is labeled as an “Ichthyosaur”.

As a result of these remarkable findings, paleontologists have been able to better understand a large period of Alberta's natural history and have been able to fill a significant gap in the history of marine reptiles.
