In October 2008, KMC Mining along with its Joint Venture Partner, Peter Kiewit Sons began work on the site development of the Kearl Oil Sands Project.

The scope of work for this project included initial site grading, construction of the starter dyke and the initial development of the mine.

The initial project was a 4 year program having a total earth moving volume of 58 million BCM.  Subsequently, the partnership was awarded the Expansion Project for the development of the mine. 

 

 

 

Since 1991, KMC has worked under long-term (five-year) renewable contracts with Syncrude completing projects at Base Mine, North Mine and the Aurora Mine. KMC has a permanent maintenance, warehouse/office facility located on the Base Mine site, which provides necessary support to KMC’s operations.
